南投縣消防局獲報後轉通知台中市消防局,當即會同雪霸處組成搜救小隊上山展開救援。搜救步隊透過手機定位,查出張姓山友的位置,位於雪山南壁碎石坡,稍有失慎可能跌落山谷,搜救小隊也通知張姓山友在現場不要移動,以後搜救隊伍經過11小時,於凌晨2點發現張姓山友,那時張姓山友已兩眼無神、全身顫栗,明顯呈現失溫狀況,搜救人員將張姓山友帶回369山莊與其他團員會集。確認張姓山友身體無狀況後,搜救人員才撤離,張姓山友則是與團員一路下山。
